March 3, 2009 Becky Essay
In the story, “Becky and the Wheels-and-Brake Boys” written by James Berry, a girl named Becky wants a bike, but her mother disagrees with the idea. Character credibility is when a character in the story and is acting like a real person would act. Becky is a credible character because of how she acts, how she feels, and what she says.
First of all, Becky is credible because she begs mom Becky begs her mom for what she wants, a bike. As Becky says, “Over and over I told my mom I wanted my mom I wanted a bike.” She really wants a bike more than anything, so she pleads to her mom. This proves that Becky is a realistic because a lot of kids bug their moms for what they want.
Secondly, Becky is a believablecharacter because she fought with her friend and got angry with her. As Becky thinks, “For the first time, Shirnette and me had a real fight because of what I hated the most.” Becky was mad at her best friend because Shirnette let a cockroach fly down Becky’s blouse. She is credible because friends frequently fight with each other.
The third reason why Becky is credible is because she asks the boys to teach her how to ride a bike, though they refuse. As Becky asks the Wheels-and-Brakes Boys, “Can somebody teach me to ride?” In response, one of the boys say, “Why don’t you stay indoors and learn to cook and sew and wash clothes?” Becky doesn’thave a bike because in her country girls aren’t encouraged to them. She wants to be a part of the group, so she’s asking the boys to teach her a new skill. Becky stands up for she wants just like any would.
In conclusion, Becky’s actions, her emotions, and her words prove that she is acredible character. My little sister reminds me of Becky. You might even know someone like Becky that is in your neighborhood.
Eleven “Eleven years-old is like onion layers.” Rachel is someone who I think is credible. To me, I think she is believable in so many ways, though she acts like a little kid. Sometimes kids, like me, do things that makes you look and act like a little kid.
Rachel is really embarrassed because she starts crying in front everyone and Mrs. Price, the teacher, told her to put on the sweater. “Put on that sweater on right now…” Also, she gets embarrassed because she starts crying in front of everyone because she had to wear the ugly sweater, even though she didn’t want to. “… if the sweater hurts me and it does, all itchy and full of germs that aren’t even mine.” I would have been pretty embarrassed if I was crying in front of everyone or was forced to wear a sweater.
Rachel gets so angry because she was forced to wear a sweater and a girl named Phyllis Lopez remembers that the sweater is hers and calls the Phyllis stupid, in her mind. “That stupid Phyllis Lopez, who is even dumber than Felice Garcia, says she remembers the sweater is hers!” Rachel should get angry because she had to wear someone’s sweater. I would be mad that I had to wear an ugly sweater.
Finally, she says it isn’t her sweater and she admits that. “That’s not, I don't, you're not ... not mine." I think Mrs. Price is stupid because she just conclude the sweater is Rachel's, when it's not hers. I would have been mad, too. Though, I think Rachel should have thrown the sweater away because it is not hers and she clearly doesn't want it.
To sum it all up, Rachel is credible in so many ways people would that she is like real children and I think people can have different thoughts about Rachel, but I think I just proved mine.

Dear Mom and Dad,
You guys (mom) won’t let me have a dog, but don’t worry. I am going to give a bunch of good reasons to have a dog, so I want a dog!!! I want a dog because it will teach me some responsibility, and it will protect me when I’m in danger and 65% less likely to be robbed. They comfort you when you are alone and they make elderly live longer.
I mean it will teach me some responsibility like walking the dog and the dog will remind me by barking, so I won’t forget to walk or feed it. It will protect me and like I wrote it is 65% less likely to be robbed. Also, I feel more secure in the street, case someone comes from behind and grabs me; I will have a dog with me in the streets. The dog will comfort me when I am alone at home or when there’s nothing to do on the weekends. Also, when we are all old, dogs make us live longer and we will be old and be happy.
When the dog leaves “presents” in the apartment, I could clean the messes and another messes it, like if it breaks items, I could clean that up, too. I could take the dog for walks and take it out often. I can baby-sit Clarisse for you and I can make some money. Also, another thing that will teach me responsibility is baby-sitting, but that is a different topic. I can give it baths every three days and Dad can help as long he lets me name the dog, which is a problem because I want to do the naming.
I hope I convince you guys into buying me a dog. If I did, I want thousands of dogs and no one is stopping me. Okay, maybe “thousands” is a lot, so I want ten.

Quote: Nana said bitterly,"And I'm never going to get married,or have a baby. Or even drive a car,or graduate from high school-or do a million other things. And it really makes me mad." (pg.40)
Reaction: Well, I can't blame her because Nana has cancer. Cady tells her that she is going to survive and I would do the very same thing for my best friend. Nana doesn't have hope that she might survive and maybe do some of the events she wants to do. Cady spends most of time with her, which makes me think that Cady is a very good friend to Nana. Though, Nana has cancer, Cady keeps the friendship together and they both don't keep secrets from each other. I really believe that is the greatest friendship ever.
